We're sorry you're having trouble completing a Leanpub purchase, and you're seeing an error that's confusing or that you're unable to resolve.
We use two third-party payments services, Stripe and PayPal, to process Leanpub purchases, and we do not have any control over these kinds of payments processing details. (To be clear, Leanpub does not store customer phone numbers or credit card numbers.)
To resolve this issue, you'll need to contact customer support for either Stripe or PayPal, depending on which payment method you have chosen when checking out your purchase from your Leanpub shopping cart.
We're sorry for not having a better answer for you! However, in our experience, we can confirm that the Stripe and PayPal customer support teams are both typically very good.

Answer: Someone contacted us saying they were unable to complete a purchase, and they were seeing this error message: "That phone number is not associated with this account. Double check it and try again."
