The Leanpub for Causes program lets Leanpub authors share royalties from their books with participating nonprofit and charity organizations.

In this article, we're going to explain how you can share royalties from your book with a participating organization.

To share some of your royalties with a participating cause, go to the "Edit Cause" page for your book here:
https://leanpub.com/YOUR_BOOK/edit_cause
...making sure to replace YOUR_BOOK with your book's unique web address.
You can also find the "Edit Cause" page on your book's "Overview" page:
The page will look something like this:
To select a cause to share royalties with, click in the "Cause" menu:
Select a cause from the dropdown:
You will now see that the cause has been selected:
Next, you need to decide what proportion of your royalties you would like to share with the cause.
To select the proportion of your royalties you would like to share with the cause, click on the "Your Royalty %" menu:
Choose a percentage from the dropdown:
Review your selection and click "Update Cause":
You'll see a banner at the top of the page showing that your update succeeded:
Now, when people go to your book's landing page, they will see a "Cause Gets" pricing slider, showing how much of their purchase will be shared with the cause:
The supported cause will have its own section lower down on your landing page:
We recommend you mention the cause that you are supporting in your "About the Book" section and wherever you are promoting the book. @ mentioning them in a message about this on social media may get you some attention!
With everything set up, the cause will now receive royalty payments from sales of your book just like a co-author would.
One detail to note is that sharing royalties is not a donation. As we said above, it's just like sharing royalties with a co-author. As a condition for participating in the Leanpub for Causes program, each participating organization needs to accept that Leanpub royalty payments are not donations.
