Some longtime Leanpub users ahve noticed that the current version of the Leanpub website is no longer fully compatible with Windows 7–era environments.

We've written this article to explain our position on this important issue.

Windows 7 reached end of life in January 2020, and most modern browsers (including Firefox ESR) now lack required support for newer web standards and security features that our site depends on.

It’s also worth noting that Firefox ESR itself was slated to end support for Windows 7 in 2026, which will make this compatibility gap even harder to avoid. And more broadly, using an unsupported OS/browser on the web in 2026 carries real security risks, since newly-discovered vulnerabilities may never be patched.

Unfortunately, there isn’t another browser available for Windows 7 that we can recommend which is expected to work reliably with Leanpub going forward.

This isn’t a decision we take lightly, but continuing to support operating systems and browsers that are no longer maintained would significantly limit our ability to improve security, performance, and features for all users.

The only reliable way to ensure compatibility with Leanpub is to use a supported operating system and a current browser.

We're sorry we don’t have a better workaround to offer, but we wanted to be clear and transparent about the situation.
