Self-published Leanpub authors are sometimes approached by conventional publishing companies who want to publish their book or books.

Getting traction on Leanpub can help you build buzz around your books and build your profile as an author, and potentially strengthen your negotiating position with publishers.

For example, you can ask to keep the ebook rights, since Leanpub offers better royalty rates than what most publishers offer.

However, please note that while it can be exciting and flattering to be approached by a publisher offering you a contract, you should research them and their offer very carefully. Some publishing contracts can have onerous conditions you may not want to accept, and some publishers may just be people you don't want to go into business with.

If your book is taken on by a publisher, and they want you to remove it from sale on the Leanpub bookstore, we make it easy to "retire" your book. Here are the instructions:

You can un-retire your book later, if you decide to start selling your book on Leanpub again.

After you retire your book, anyone who has already bought it will still be able to access the book from their Leanpub library.

OK, that's it!
