I'm using TranslateAI to translate my Leanpub book. How will I edit the translated book? Can I use Leanpub's GitHub writing mode for the translated book?

How Your TranslateAI Book Will Be Set Up on Leanpub

By default, a TranslateAI book will generate a new text file for every text file in your original book manuscript.

The translated book will be created in Leanpub's Browser writing mode.

Editing Your TranslateAI Book on Leanpub

We use the Monaco editor (from VSCode) in our Browser editor, so it's a pretty good tool for editing your translated book's text files.

Converting Your TranslateAI Book to Leanpub's GitHub Writing Mode

Many authors prefer setting their translated books up in Leanpub's GitHub writing mode.

Writing a book in Leanpub's GitHub writing mode has a lot of amazing advantages, including very sophisticated version control, collaboration with co-authors and translators, and even inviting readers from around the world to help you improve your manuscript, by submitting suggested improvements to your translated book.

If you want to convert a TranslateAI book to Leanpub's GitHub writing mode, here's what you do:

1. Create an "archive" of your TranslateAI book's manuscript. The instructions for downloading an archive are here.

2. Download the zip file produced by the "create archive" process.

3. Extract that zip file and import it into a new GitHub repository you create for your TranslateAI book. The instructions for setting up a GitHub repo for a book and using Leanpub's GitHub writing mode are here.

4. Change the writing mode of the TranslateAI book to the GitHub writing mode. The instructions for finding your book's "Writing Mode" page are here.

5. Connect the TranslateAI book on Leanpub to the GitHub repository for the book. The instructions for doing this are here.

If You're Working with a Translator to Refine the TranslateAI Book, We Recommend Using Our GitHub Writing Mode

In terms of recommendations, our Browser mode is single-player, since we don't do anything smart to prevent authors from clobbering each other with changes to the manuscript.

So if you and your translator are going to both be editing the TranslateAI book manuscript, and they are technical enough to use GitHub, we strongly recommend using our GitHub writing mode for the book.

However, our Browser mode does have the advantage of being free, though! You will need a Standard or Pro Membership to use our GitHub writing mode.
