There is an avatar image shown on my Leanpub account profile, but I have not uploaded an image! Can you please explain where the image is from?

What is happening here is that we’re automatically requesting an image from Gravatar, based on an MD5 hash of your email address.

We can confirm this means your email address is not being shared.

If you want to, you can upload a different avatar image to your Leanpub account here:

How does this work?

The idea with an MD5 hash is that you cannot reconstruct the email from the hash; you can only check that the email produces the hash.

Here's a modified example of what a hash of this kind looks like:
