Leanpub is a self-publishing platform, and our authors are in control of their own content.

A crucial advantage of self-publishing for authors is that they are free to proceed with their writing and publication plans as they choose.

We have a feature that lets people contact authors to ask them questions, like what their writing plans are for any particular book project:

Typically, authors love to hear from readers about issues like this!

What Can I Do If I Don't See Progress On A Book I've Bought?

If you don't see progress on a book you've bought, with just a couple of clicks, you can get a refund for up to two months (well, technicaly 60 days) after you make a purchase.

We think two months is enough time to evaluate an author's progress. If you don't see the progress you were expecting in that time, you can just get a refund, and check back on the book's status at a later date.

What If An Author Doesn't Respond to My Attempts to Contact Them?

While we encourage readers to contact authors with questions, and most authors welcome it most of the time, please note that authors are human beings too, and they are under no obligation to answer your questions.

If you don't hear back from an author after using our contact form, you can try contacting them some other way, for example on social media, or through their own contact form if they have one on a personal website, or something like that.

Why Do Some Book Projects Take So Long? Why Are Writers Sometimes Stalled In Their Progress Writing A Book?

Delays are a story as old as books themselves.

Johannes Gutenberg went bankrupt because he didn't produce his run of famous Bibles on time - and he didn't even have to write the book, or manage dozens of authors to finish their individual contributions on time.

More recently, the American author Sam Tanenhaus published his book Buckley: The Life and the Revolution That Changed America something like twenty or thirty years later than was originally intended.

Sometimes the scope of the book expands, so while chapters are added, the "Percent Complete" number on Leanpub may not go up.

Sometimes life just happens. People have kids or get married, they get new jobs, or their careers go in unintended directions.

Sadly, sometimes death and illness happen, too.
