I'm trying to create an account and I'm seeing a message about CAPTCHA, but I'm not seeing any CAPTCHA! What can I do?

We occasionally hear from people that they are unable to create a Leanpub account, because when they click to complete the form to create an account, they see a message about completing a CAPTCHA process (for security reasons, to confirm they are a person and not a bot), but they actually don't see any CAPTCHA process to complete! This means they are unable to complete the process to create an account.

We're aware of this rare issue and we're working on it, but in the meantime, we hope this guidance will help.

Try Signing Up Before Creating a Book

We've had one or two similar reports when someone is trying to create an account if they are creating a new book, when they are not signed in to an existing Leanpub account:

However, it should work if you try creating an account here:

You should then be signed in to Leanpub, and able to create a new book, if that's what you were trying to do.

Try Using a Different Web Browser or Device

If you weren't trying to create a book, and you were just signing up for an account as usual, it may work if you try another web browser or device.

We typically test things in the Chrome browser first.

Try Temporarily Turning Off Any Ad Blockers etc.

The CAPTCHA may be blocked by an ad blocker or something similar you may be using. Try turning these off temporarily, while you're completing the form to sign up for an account.

Try Refreshing the Page After You Click the Button to Complete the Sign Up Process

We have heard that when the CAPTCHA message appears with no CAPTCHA process to complete, it goes away if you refresh the page, and you will find you have successfully created an account, and the CAPTCHA message was just an error.
