To create a list of figures in your book, you type {figures} on a line by itself in a text file in your manuscript, wherever you want the list of figures to appear in the book.

Here's a video that shows you how:

Typically you'll want to put the {figures} directive at the beginning or the end of your manuscript.

Here's an example of what it looks like adding the {figures} directive above the beginning of your first chapter, where the first chapter is named "Chapter One":

{figures}

# Chapter One

Welcome to the Leanpub Browser book writing editor! This page is where you will be writing your book. This file is a working, real example of how to write a book chapter in plain text with Markdown formatting (which we'll explain briefly below).

You can read more about Figures in the Markua manual here:

Resource Insertion Methods

A Figure is basically any object you insert into your manuscript, like an image.

Here's how you add an image to a Leanpub book, with the figure title and caption "Palm Trees":

If you had just that one figure in your book, here is what the List of Figures would look like in the PDF:

The figure title (in this example "Palm Trees") will be a crosslink to the image in the book.

A Brief Detail About Using a List of Figures When You've Set Up A Frontmatter Section in Your Book

If you want a section at the beginning of your book that is numbered in roman numerals, you type this at the end of that section:

{mainmatter}

What the {mainmatter} directive does is tell Leanpub's book generators, "Everything before this should be numbered with roman numerals, and everything after this should be numbered normally".

If you're using the {mainmatter} directive to do this, then the list of figures directive {figures} needs to be before the {mainmatter} directive in your manuscript.

OK, that's it!
