You can use the newline character in a Leanpub manuscript.
We can't paste the character into this article for you to copy and paste, unfortunately.
So, here's a brief hacky way to get the character.
Open a new document in Microsoft Word.
Type the following on a line by itself:
U+000A
Then, with the cursor blinking at the end of the character string, you hit Control + Option on a Mac, or ALT+X on a PC. That generates the character:
The character shows up as a box with a question mark inside.
If you copy that character into the Write tab for a Leanpub book written in our Browser writing mode, it will be there, but invisible:
That will create a newline in the book when you generate a preview:
