We have a feature that lets people contact authors via email:
I've got a question for a Leanpub author. How can I contact them?
For privacy purposes, they are not required to share their email address when they use this feature, and your email address is not displayed to them.
However, they can choose to include their email address if they use this feature, if they would like to share it with you, and so you can reply to them (in which case, they will see your email address, of course).
Sometimes people send a message to a Leanpub author using this feature, hoping for a reply from the author, but they forget to include their email address.
If they do not share their email address, you will not be able to reply to them when you receive their email.
Also, for privacy reasons, we will not release their email address to you if you request it, sorry about that. (We won't release your email address to them either!)
Here's what you can do if this happens:
First, you can just wait and let them try again.
Second, if they do not receive a reply from the author, they will try reaching out to you in other ways.
Third, include your email address in your book's introduction, and be present on social media. That way people can contact you easily even if they make a mistake with the "Email the Author(s)" feature on Leanpub. Being publicly engaged and open to contact is really important for self-published authors anyway!
Fourth, you can check your Customers page to see if they have shared their email address with you, and you can figure out who there are from their email message.
Fifth, if people don't hear back from an author, they will often email the team at hello@leanpub.com, and we give them advice about what to do next, including sending a new email.
